World Bank launches Open Data Initiative
On 20 April 2010, the World Bank group released more than 2,000 financial, business, health, economic and human development statistics that had mostly been available only to paying customers. The Datasets are available via a new website, data.worldbank.org. Under the liberal terms of use for Datasets, users are encouraged to "use the Datasets to benefit [themselves] and others in creative ways".
Andrew McLaughlin, Deputy U.S. Chief Technology Officer has applauded this exciting new development in the global data transparency movement for its broad range of Datasets and user-friendly format.
